The Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve on Prudence Island, Rhode Island seeks to fill two seasonal research positions in 2010. One position is for 6 months and focuses primarily on assisting the research coordinator and staff with a variety of ongoing estuarine research and monitoring projects, as well as with the Reserve's long-term water quality monitoring program. Projects include water quality mapping, subtidal habitat mapping, macroalgal rapid assessments, wading bird ecology, and cobble beach ecology, among others. The second position is for 3 months, with a focus on assisting the research and stewardship coordinators with establishing the Reserve's salt marshes as sentinel sites for conducting long-term monitoring to detect the effects of climate change. It also involves assisting the stewardship coordinator with a variety of upland stewardship projects including pine-barrens restoration, invasive species removal, and groundwater and stream monitoring.
