Coordinator for Volunteer Monitoring Program/Environmental Lab Technician

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Volunteer Monitoring Coordinator/Environmental Laboratory Technician (Research Grant Specialist) in Coastal Carolina University's Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies. Position is a full-time annual appointment with benefits. This position will work with the Center's Environmental Quality Laboratory which serves the coastal and inland waters of northeastern South Carolina.

A primary responsibility will be management of a volunteer water quality monitoring program in collaboration with the Waccamaw Riverkeeper. (See http://www.coastal.edu/envsci/vm_project.html). Duties will include: field sampling, sample processing and analysis, quality control procedures, instrument calibration and data management. The following parameters are routinely measured: bacteria, chlorophyll, nutrients, BOD5, organic carbon, turbidity, pH and alkalinity. Field measurements are made with in-situ meters. Applicants should be able to participate in research cruises, train others in sampling and analytical techniques, and interact effectively with students and volunteer monitors.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in science and one (1) year related job experience. Applicant will possess strong field, laboratory and computer skills. Must also maintain a valid SC driver's license and be a strong swimmer.
