DEAN, School of the Coast and Environment, LSU

Louisiana State University (LSU) is seeking applicants and nominations for the Dean of the School of the Coast and Environment (SC&E). SC&E serves Louisiana and the nation through a variety of research, outreach, undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School plays an important role in LSU's National Flagship Agenda (www.lsu.edu/flagshipagenda/) designed to move LSU toward greater national prominence. The Dean is responsible for administration and leadership of the School's programs and coordinating development efforts designed to enhance SC&E's endowment. The University seeks an individual of distinguished scholarly accomplishment to lead a multidisciplinary faculty into this exciting phase of LSU and SC&E's growth.

Located adjacent to the "natural laboratory" of Louisiana's coastal wetlands and the Mississippi River, the School is a leader in addressing some of the largest coastal, environmental, and restoration problems facing the nation. SC&E resides in a new $26 million, 153,000 square-foot building. There are 36 academic faculty and 12 research faculty associated with the School in two departments - the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences and the Department of Environmental Sciences - all with a strong tradition of excellence in research, teaching, and professional service. SC&E enrolls >100 graduate students and the new undergraduate program in Coastal Environmental Science will begin Fall 2008. The faculty attracts $8-10 million annually in external funding, one of the most productive units on campus.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree and accomplishment sufficient to be granted tenure as a full professor; a record of leadership in multidisciplinary research, innovative teaching and graduate student education; demonstrated ability to create a working environment that promotes research addressing international, national, and regional issues consistent with LSU's Flagship Agenda; a record of initiating and facilitating new and existing faculty contacts with funding organizations.

An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Application deadline is May 9, 2008 or until a candidate is selected. The Dean Search Committee invites letters of nomination, applications, or expressions of interest. Applications should include a letter of interest, complete CV (including e-mail address), and references. All information should be submitted to the search firm assisting Louisiana State University:
