Assistant Social Scientist

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) has an opportunity for a unique individual with a background in social science and an interest in applying social science to coastal resource management. This position will support our contract with the NOAA Coastal Service Center (CSC) (www.csc.noaa.gov), a federal facility located in Charleston, SC; assisting the newly expanded Human Dimensions Program with the development of products and services that support the application of social science tools to assist the coastal management community.

Duties:

Support senior staff in:

  • collecting demographic and other data
  • developing surveys
  • tabulating survey responses
  • reviewing documents, maps, and other work products
  • performing basic literature searches
  • preparing data and other content for use in technical reports
  • using geospatial technology to produce maps and other information resources
  • gathering information for use in training manuals, Web sites, and workshops
  • preparing materials for conferences, trainings, facilitation and workshops and preparing meeting notes

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS a social science related field
  • Experience with one or more of the following: survey design, statistics, database development, secondary data content analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), economics, sociology, understanding of human dimensions of natural resources management, and familiarity with the issues associated with coastal planning, habitat conservation, climate change and adaptation, natural hazards and community resilience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and organization skills
