Ducks Unlimited Natural Resources Technician

EMPLOYMENT DURATION: 3 Months, Possibly extended to 9 months

SALARY: $1,400 per month

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The technician will work under contract for the Maryland DNR Forest Service, and will collect data for stream and riparian forest buffer monitoring in recently restored habitats throughout the Potomac River watershed in western Maryland. The technician will also perform data entry and some limited data analysis duties. Extensive fieldwork in adverse weather and terrain may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree (or equivalent standing in 4-year program) in forestry or a natural resources field with at least 18 hours of coursework in forestry, ecology, or environmental science. Previous paid field experience, and experience with GPS equipment and GIS software are highly desirable but not required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated skill identifying trees and shrubs, ability to work alone outside with compass and maps in remote terrain. Valid driver's license, good driving record and personal vehicle required. Technician will be compensated for field mileage based on the current Federal rate.
