WATERSHED PLANNER / ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST

Versar, Inc. in Columbia, MD, is seeking to diversify and grow its current watershed assessment, planning, and restoration business with expanded expertise in watershed planning, analysis, and project management. Strong candidates would have technical as well as management experience in conducting assessments using field, GIS, and modeling approaches, and developing watershed management and restoration plans.

Technical expertise and experience desired include working with an interdisciplinary group of watershed scientists on project applications in one or more of the following areas: assessment of watershed features affecting stream water quality/quantity and ecological status; geomorphic assessments of stream channels to evaluate impacts of watershed urbanization; development of innovative stormwater management and stream restoration solutions, including low-impact development; hydraulic/hydrologic and water quality models (e.g., HEC-RAS, TR-20/55, SWMM); and other data analysis, interpretation, and reporting skills (including advanced GIS analysis and tool development) to meet client needs.

Minimum requirements would be a Masters degree and 5 to 7 years experience in a relevant discipline of the environmental sciences or engineering, and Rosgen or equivalent advanced expertise in fluvial geomorphology. Rosgen Level IV certification is desired. Good oral and written communication skills are required; additional experience in scientific research and technical writing are also desirable. The ability to work on multiple projects in a multi-disciplinary team setting is necessary. Successful candidates must be flexible, self-starters, able to think on their feet, able to creatively solve problems and capable of good client interactions and development of new projects.

Management experience sought are at least 2 years of managing major tasks or projects, interacting as a corporate representative with major clients in areas of special expertise, and participation in proposal writing. Marketing and developing funding for projects is not essential but would be a plus. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Versar's Ecological Sciences and Applications Division has a national reputation for high quality ecological research in freshwater, estuarine, and terrestrial environments. The scope of project activity ranges from designing and implementing field studies to complex ecosystem and risk assessment modeling related to impact assessment and resource management. Individuals will work closely with senior scientists and will have the opportunity to develop new projects while working on multiple, long term, multi year watershed projects.
