Research Technician II: Duke University Marine Lab

This 40 h per week position is located in Beaufort, North Carolina, at the Duke University Marine Laboratory, and is a restricted appointment with funding subject to renewal.

The successful applicant will be responsible for molecular genetics and laboratory benchwork including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, DNA cloning, electrophoresis, histology, and fluorescent in situ hybridization. The applicant must be able to stage for and participate in extended (possibly as much as 6 to 8 weeks) research cruises to remote ocean locations and to manage the day-to-day laboratory needs, including maintaining records and inventories, ordering supplies, preparing graphics for publication, supervision of research students, set-up protocols and modify procedures and techniques to accomplish research goals, perform other related duties. Good computer and communication skills (oral and written) are essential, as are strong interpersonal skills. An advanced degree in biology or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Previous sea-going experience is desirable.
