Summer 2006 Newsletter
Long-time ERF member Denise Reed, professor at the University of New Orleans, Department of Earth and Environmental Studies was awarded a 2006 Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellowship.
Inspired by Aldo Leopold's plain-spoken yet science-based approach to conservation, the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program, located at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, trains environmental scientists to communicate their work effectively to a variety of non-scientific audiences.
Each year up to 20 academic environmental scientists are selected to receive intensive experiential training, expert consultation, and peer networking. Leopold Leadership Fellows hone skills to better communicate the science associated with complex environmental issues to the media, policy makers, business leaders and other non-scientists.
Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellows are among the top environmental scientists in their fields. Selected through a highly competitive process, the individuals chosen as Fellows come to the program with outstanding leadership potential and a demonstrated commitment to communicating complex scientific issues in ways that non-scientists can understand and use. Leopold Leadership Fellows are recognized by journalists, policy makers and others as important and credible sources of scientific information.
Congratulations Denise!!!!
