Postdoctoral Fellow Molecular Microbiology

JHT is hiring for a 1 year Postdoctoral Fellow position (with the opportunity for extension) to conduct research under NOAA’s Oceans and Human Health Initiative in Charleston, SC. The objective of this project is to develop assays and rapid detection field equipment to identify infectious agents, both terrestrial and aquatic in nature, present in marine mammals. The successful applicant will develop real time PCR based assays for identification of bacterial zoonotics in clinical samples. These assays will then be deployed to a hand held instrument for use in the field.

Graduate Assistantship/Bivalve Larval Ecology

An assistantship towards a Master degree of Public Health (MPH) is available in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The candidate will work with on projects on the ecology of quagga mussel (Dreissena bugensis) veligers, test the toxicity of different chemicals on quagga mussels, and collect data on boat decontamination with pressured hot water. Invasive quagga mussels were discovered in Lake Mead on January 6, 2007. It is the first known occurrence of the dreissenid species in the western United States.
